Aéro Montréal conclut un partenariat avec DAIR pour intégrer MACH dans son initiative de développement des fournisseurs destinée aux PME aérospatiales de l’Ontario
Dans le cadre du Forum innovation aérospatiale international 2024 Montréal, le 22 mai 2024 – À l’occasion du Forum innovation aérospatiale international qui se déroule au Palais des Congrès de Montréal, Aéro Montréal annonce la signature d’une entente de partenariat avec Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) pour l’utilisation du processus d’audit MACH dans le cadre de l’initiative de développement des fournisseurs (SDI) du DAIR en Ontario. Rehausser la compétitivité et la maturité des PME en aérospatiale au Québec Lancée par Aéro Montréal en 2011, l’initiative MACH a pour objectif de rehausser la compétitivité et la maturité des PME aérospatiales québécoises. Elle cible, pour cela, la maîtrise des processus d’affaires clés de 3 axes : l’excellence en leadership, l’excellence opérationnelle et l’excellence en planification et en développement de main-d’oeuvre. En proposant un cadre méthodologique et des outils communs, l’initiative permet d’évaluer et planifier la démarche d’amélioration de la performance des entreprises sur les 16 processus d’affaires clés du Cadre d’excellence MACH (CEM). Les participants accèdent notamment à un soutien financier, à un processus de certification reconnu ou encore à des outils de développement de compétences. Depuis la création de l’initiative, 72 PME réparties dans 5 cohortes ont été accompagnées par Aéro Montréal. Appliquer la recette de la compétitivité en Ontario DAIR signe aujourd’hui une entente de partenariat avec Aéro Montréal pour intégrer MACH dans son initiative de développement des fournisseurs destinée aux PME aérospatiales de l’Ontario. Imaginée pour soutenir les PME dans un processus d’amélioration continue en utilisant une méthodologie éprouvée, DAIR SDI utilisera la méthodologie éprouvée du cadre d’excellence MACH, le mentorat d’un équipementier ou d’une entreprise de niveau 1 et un investissement conjoint dans un projet d’amélioration stratégique. À partir de l’été 2024, un investissement total de 1,44 million de dollars aura pour objectif de soutenir 24 entreprises. « L’initiative MACH a permis de rehausser la compétitivité et la maturité de 72 PME aérospatiales québécoises. Aéro Montréal partners with DAIR to utilize the MACH initiative as part of the DAIR Supplier Development Initiative in Ontario
Announced during the International Aerospace Innovation Forum 2024 Montréal, May 22, 2024 – On the occasion of the International Aerospace Innovation Forum being held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Aéro Montréal has announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) for the use of the MACH initiative audit process as part of the established DAIR Supplier Development Initiative (SDI) in Ontario. Enhancing the competitiveness and maturity of aerospace SMEs in Quebec Launched by Aéro Montréal in 2011, the MACH initiative aims to increase the competitiveness and maturity of Québec’s aerospace SMEs. To achieve this, it focuses on mastering key business processes in three areas: leadership excellence, operational excellence and excellence in workforce planning and development. By providing a common methodological framework and tools, the initiative enables companies to assess and plan their performance improvement approach to the 16 key business processes of the MACH Excellence Framework. Participants have access to financial support, a recognized certification process, and skills development tools. Since the initiative’s inception, 72 SMEs in five cohorts have been supported by Aéro Montréal. Using this competitiveness formula in Ontario DAIR today signed a partnership agreement with Aéro Montréal to incorporate MACH within its Supplier Development Initiative aimed at aerospace SMEs in Ontario. Designed to support SMEs in a continuous improvement process, the DAIR SDI will use the proven methodology of the MACH Excellence Framework, mentoring from an OEM or Tier 1 company, and a joint investment in a strategic improvement project. Beginning in summer 2024, a total investment of $1.44 million aims to support 24 companies. “The MACH initiative has improved the competitiveness and maturity of 72 aerospace SMEs in Québec. TORONTO, May 1, 2024 /CNW/ – Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) Board Chair Andrew Petrou today announced the appointment of Phil Arthurs as DAIR’s new Executive Director, effective immediately. Internationally, Mr. Arthurs held roles with Dassault Systèmes (co-located at the Boeing Company in Everett, Washington) and with the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, Belgium. Canadian Workers to Receive High-Demand Skills Training Through Innovative New Platform
TORONTO, ONTARIO, November 27, 2023 – Today, Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) is announcing the launch of the Aerospace Structural Assembly Program, in partnership with delivery partner Centennial College. The program is powered by Upskill Canada and is part of the first wave of partnership agreements that are taking an industry-oriented approach to supporting Canadian workers. These agreements will help thousands of workers find new careers through skills training and job placement in some of the fastest-growing industries in Canada. There is a huge demand for skilled workers in the aerospace industry across Ontario and Canada. This hands-on Aerospace Structural Assembly training program will provide trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to perform complex structural assembly, as required by the aviation manufacturing industry. Supported by funding from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s (ISED) Upskilling for Industry Initiative, more than 15,000 Canadian workers will benefit from an innovative approach to skills training. Central to the Upskill Canada initiative is the role of community training providers, who work closely with local and national employers to identify precise suites of skills being sought by industry. DAIR to Innovate – Charting a vision for Ontario’s aerospace innovation ecosystem
Leading players with a stake in Ontario’s aerospace sector will convene on October 24, 2023, at DAIR to Innovate 2023 to showcase technology advancements, share ideas for amplifying strengths, and discuss the elements that will support a strong future for Ontario’s aerospace innovation ecosystem. The conference is hosted by the Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) hub, which brings together academics, companies, research organizations and government stakeholders around the shared goal of advancing Canada’s global aerospace industry leadership. Exploring the path to a strong and prosperous future for the innovation ecosystem Ontario’s aerospace companies have significant capabilities and assets. They are pioneering innovative technologies to enhance efficiencies and performance and are pushing the envelope in many areas of “green aviation,” bringing new levels of sustainability to the industry. Participants in the conference will include aerospace companies of all sizes, technology companies, academics, government stakeholders, non-profits, and service providers to the sector, as well as students. New round of DAIR Green Fund projects accelerates the drive to increase sustainability and competitiveness in the aerospace sector
Creating a greener aerospace sector continues to be a priority for the industry in Ontario and across Canada. To that end, Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) is pleased to announce a second group of collaborative projects funded by the DAIR Green Fund. The DAIR Green Fund provides financial support to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) advance the technology readiness of projects that can help reduce the environmental footprint of aviation and aerospace. This fund is supported by the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), as part of the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI). The DAIR Green Fund recipients in the second round: Advanced Mobility Products Inc., Columbiad Launch Services Inc., Plan de Vol International Inc. (FliteX), Promation Engineering Ltd., RAMPF Composite Solutions Inc., Superwake, Tristar Coatings Ltd. and Zentek Ltd. In August 2022, FedDev Ontario announced support the Green Fund, as well as DAIR’s Supplier Development Initiative (SDI). Working to reduce the environmental footprint of the aerospace sector
Ontario aerospace companies and their partners are helping to accelerate a green shift in aviation and aerospace through collaborative projects funded by the Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) Green Fund. The aerospace industry in Ontario and across Canada is a key component of the shift towards a greener and more environmentally sustainable future. Green aviation technologies and processes are vital to long-term success in the effort to reach the global target of net zero-carbon emissions by 2050 – and a wide range of projects and technologies will be needed as part of a holistic approach. A first in Ontario, the DAIR Green Fund provides financial support to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) advance the technology readiness of projects that can help reduce the environmental footprint of the aerospace sector. Eight projects led by southern Ontario SMEs have been selected as Green Fund recipients in this initial round. The recipients are: Aeroflux, Brampton Processing, Burloak Technologies, Drone Delivery Canada, HEBE, Horizon Aircraft, OVA and Solid Ultrabatery. “The DAIR Green Fund-supported projects will help advance sustainable innovation in the Ontario aerospace sector,” says Maryse Harvey, Executive Director of DAIR. “Such innovation will strengthen Canadian global competitiveness, as many nations around the world pursue green transformation initiatives in aviation and aerospace.” “This important effort has enabled the creation of promising research and development partnerships, paving the way for increased collaboration which is key to our industry’s success,” added Steven Cargnello, DAIR Green Fund Manager. The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) is investing up to $2.6 million through the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) to support the Green Fund as well as DAIR’s Supplier Development Initiative (SDI). Both initiatives are designed to help the Ontario aerospace ecosystem increase competitiveness and sustainability. Today, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, along with Ya’ara Saks, Member of Parliament for York Centre, attended an event at the DAIR hub to celebrate the eight innovative projects that received Green Fund support. Filomena Tassi, Minister Responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario DAIR Green Fund Selection Process In the fall of 2022, the DAIR Green Fund invited SMEs to propose projects for funding. Applicants had to be located in southern Ontario to be eligible for the program. The focus of the projects included a broad cross-section of technologies and processes that can impact green aerospace or sustainability. A rigorous process based on industry best practices was used to manage the project solicitation, evaluation and selection process. A review committee composed of five (5) members with diverse background and expertise from across industry, academia and research centres was formed to assess the projects. The members of the review committee were from Innovitech Inc., the National Research Council of Canada, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies, and Bombardier. Proposed projects were assessed based on weighted criteria including environmental benefits, economic impact in southern Ontario, collaboration, and project planning and management. A Government of Canada investment of over $2.6 million from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) through the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) supports two initiatives delivered by Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) – the DAIR Supplier Development Initiative (SDI) and the DAIR Green Fund. Together, these initiatives are to support up to 24 small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ontario. DAIR Green Fund Advancing sustainable innovation in the aerospace sector will strengthen Canadian global competitiveness, as many nations around the world pursue green transformation in aviation and aerospace. The DAIR Green Fund will help the aerospace industry accelerate this green shift by focusing on new technologies and processes. Designed to support the work of Ontario SMEs, the Green Fund will provide direct financial support for collaborative projects that demonstrate an impact on the future of aerospace through sustainable and green aviation technologies and solutions. Proposed projects can focus on innovation in a broad range of areas including but not limited to products/processes related to alternative propulsion, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), additive manufacturing, new materials and light weighting, reduction of waste and consumables, environmentally focused aircraft design, and aircraft efficiencies. DAIR Supplier Development Initiative Participation in national and global aerospace supply chains is a proven pathway to support SME growth. The DAIR Supplier Development Initiative (SDI) is designed to help Ontario SMEs increase their value in supply chains and become stronger project partners. The result will be an improved aerospace ecosystem, which supports Canadian competitiveness and economic growth. With SDI support, selected SMEs will receive an assessment audit that analyzes their capacity to serve the supplier requirements of prime contractors – Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other Tier 1 project partners. Based on the audit outcome, SDI supports the SME to develop and implement operational and technological improvements and training solutions, with access to OEM/Tier 1 expertise and coaching. DAIR Secures Government of Canada Funding to Support New Initiatives for Aerospace Industry Growth in Ontario
TORONTO (August 23, 2022) – Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) will launch new initiatives to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Ontario aerospace industry develop and advance their capabilities, focus on greening and sustainability in products and operations, and become more competitive. For the aerospace sector more widely, these initiatives will foster increased efficiency in supply chain development and advance sustainability in research and development and commercialization.DAIR is a not-for-profit consortium that brings together academics, companies, research organizations and government stakeholders around a shared goal – to advance Ontario’s and Canada’s global aerospace industry leadership. The $2.68-million investment through FedDev Ontario’s Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative (ARRI) will support two initiatives to be launched in fall 2022: the Supplier Development Initiative and the Green Fund – both of which support DAIR’S mission to help drive innovation in the aerospace and aviation sectors. The DAIR Supplier Development Initiative will improve the competitiveness of the Ontario aerospace ecosystem by helping SMEs assess their strategic positioning and capabilities and then, alongside mentorship from OEMs and Tier 1s, to implement better business practices to improve their maturity, capabilities and productivity. The Green Fund will help the aerospace industry accelerate a green shift by focusing on new technologies and processes. Designed to support the work of SMEs, the Green Fund will provide direct financial support for collaborative projects with the potential to make an impact on the future of aerospace through sustainable and green aviation technologies and solutions. Together, the new DAIR initiatives will provide opportunities for up to 24 Ontario SMEs. Both will support the revitalization and continued growth of the aerospace industry during a pivotal time, as Canada emerges from the worst impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Investing in the work and capabilities of SMEs will yield long-term benefits for the nation’s aerospace sector and the broader Canadian economy,” says Maryse Harvey, executive director of DAIR. “Stronger Canadian companies will be well positioned to compete and thrive in the global aerospace industry, which is projected to grow substantially over the next decade.” On the day of the FedDev Ontario funding announcement, the Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, toured the current DAIR facilities, including the Toronto Metropolitan University Aerospace Engineering Centre, where faculty, graduate students and industry partners work on R&D projects; and the Bombardier Centre for Aerospace and Aviation at Centennial College, a state-of-the-art campus for training and partnerships. The Minister also had the opportunity to learn more about the planned physical growth of the DAIR hub facilities to support co-location of industry and academia, which will include the restoration of the heritage Moth Building and the DAIR Innovation Centre. “Small and medium-sized aerospace businesses have an important role to play in southern Ontario’s economic recovery, which is why the Government of Canada is committed to supporting them and protecting the thousands of workers this sector employs. Organizations like Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research are helping strengthen our region’s future economy, while working towards greening Canada’s aerospace sector,” says the Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. DAIR recognizes that as part of the recovery and growth plan, the aerospace industry will need to engage new people in the sector to fill vital roles both now and in the future.
